The State Museum of History of Uzbekistan is located in Tashkent and, like the State Museum of Nature of Uzbekistan, is the oldest museum in Central Asia and Tashkent, tracing its lineage to the People's Museum of Turkestan.
The first floor of the museum greets guests with an exhibition gallery. The remaining floors reflect the historical stages of development of Uzbekistan. On the second floor you can get acquainted with relics of the Paleolithic era, artifacts of the ancient world and early Middle Ages, and valuable finds from the Timurid reign. Among the main treasures: tools, the skeleton of an ancient man (1.5 million years BC), a bronze cauldron with animal figurines, a triad with images of Buddha and monks (1st century AD), various items related to the caravan road "The Great Silk Road".
The third floor conveys the era of the three khanates dominating the territory of modern Uzbekistan and other republics of Central Asia. The fourth floor contains exhibitions and models of the 19th-21st centuries. The landscape method of constructing exhibitions and layouts are mainly used here; such methods best convey all the nuances of recent history and demonstrate the industrial, economic and sports achievements of the country.
The museum has a souvenir shop that sells souvenirs in the national style and unusual curiosities from ceramics, textiles, miniatures and much more.
