During the meeting, participants discussed strengthening cooperation among OIC countries in the tourism sector, increasing mutual tourist flows, developing joint tourism products, and promoting the tourism potential of the Islamic world in international markets.
Uzbekistan places special emphasis on the development of cultural, pilgrimage, historical, gastronomic, ecological, and handicraft tourism within the OIC framework. Particular attention is being given to increasing tourist exchanges among member states, creating joint tourism products, and enhancing the international promotion of the Islamic world’s tourism potential.
Hosting this meeting in Tashkent is of particular significance for Uzbekistan. With its rich Islamic heritage, ancient civilization, renowned scholars, and historic cities, the country is regarded as one of the key destinations for pilgrimage and cultural tourism within the OIC region.
The meeting will further strengthen Uzbekistan’s active engagement within the OIC and reinforce the country’s standing as a center of Islamic heritage and pilgrimage tourism. In addition, the designation of the city of Khiva as the “Tourism Capital of the Islamic World” in 2024 has made an important contribution to enhancing Uzbekistan’s international profile in the tourism sector.
